I can sit here and write whatever I want you to think of me to be.
I can effectuate your hopes that I am some inspirational human being, who strives to make the world a better place. As great as that sounds, I am really not.
When I sit and think, I start to feel like our culture is simply being taken over by the idea of what our parents want us to be, or our peers, or what God wants us to be. Why? Because we look up to them. We worship the ground they walk on and we don't want to disappoint. But what we don't quite realize is that we've developed this need to claim who we are, rather than just to be.
I'll admit, I am guilty for those inspirational quote posting on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. But I don't do it to try and make you believe I am something I am not.
I am a very self-less, in the moment, expressive person. I believe in energy and making a difference in people's lives. I don't do it to impress others, it was just something I naturally became. It's the result of taking risks, stepping out of your comfort zone, and learning what will work and what won't work from trial and error. It was learning to own those mistakes.
Life isn't about impressing others or making decisions due to other people's expectations, or trying to be something you are not. No.
It's all about pursuing passion, growing, taking risks and seeking the unknown. It's about doing. That's the whole beauty of it all. You become by what you discover and experience, not by what you say. So stop trying to please everyone and just go out there and 'do' whatever your heart desires.
