I can sit here and write whatever I want you to think of me to be. I can effectuate your hopes that I am some inspirational human being, who strives to make the world a better place. As great as that sounds, I am really not. When I sit and think, I start to feel like our culture is simply being taken over by the idea of what our parents want us to be, or our peers, or what God wants us to be. Why? Because we look up to them. We worship the ground they walk on and we don't want to disappoint. But what we don't quite realize is that we've developed this need to claim who we are, rather than just to be. I'll admit, I am guilty for those inspirational quote posting on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. But I don't do it to try and make you believe I am something I am not.
